SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- A day after losing with a two goal lead, the Mississippi RiverKings (16-8-2) won 3-2 at the Landers Center after trailing by two goals in the first period to the Peoria Rivermen (12-5-7) on Saturday night.
Connor Gorman opened the scoring by pushing a trickling puck past Brad Barone after Ben Oskroba sent a puck in at the blue line to keep it from going out of the offensvie zone. Gorman scored again in the middle of the first, wristing a shot from the bottom of the right circle past Barone on a two-on-two opportunity.
The RiverKings' answer came back on the power play. Sam Higgins slapped a shot from the point that hit traffic in front of Rivermen goaltender Storm Phaneuf, bounced in the air, hit off of Phaneuf’s back and went in to the net.
In the second, penalties on Cody Castro and Dakota Klecha brought four-on-four hockey. During the four-on-four, a rush created by Dillan Fox led to a rebound goal for Ryan Marcuz that he wristed over an outstretched Phaneuf to tie the game.
Early in the third, the RiverKings took the only lead they would need in the game on the rush with Corey Tyrell feeding Fox to beat Phaneuf through the five hole. The RiverKings would hold off a six-on-four to end the game and take the win.
Brad Barone (8-5-2) bounced back with a win, stopping 27 of 29 shots against. Storm Phaneuf (0-2-1) took the loss stopping 24 shots..
The RiverKings go on the road for three games in three nights starting in Roanoke against the Rail Yard Dawgs with a 6:05 p.m. puck drop scheduled.
