Southaven, MS – The Mississippi RiverKings are partnering with Craigmont High School in Memphis for a fundraising project to restore Craigmont’s on-campus planetarium.
Because of outdated equipment, the planetarium has been non-operational since 2010. Current Craigmont Principal Dr. Tisha Durrah has been working to restore the planetarium since coming to the school in 2015. A GoFundMe campaign was started earlier this year, but has since yielded little results. Estimates to upgrade the planetarium’s equipment have ranged from $30,000 to $190,000.
“When I heard about the planetarium, I thought it was such a cool thing,” said Mandy Barefoot-McCulloch, Ticketing Manager for the RiverKings. “I went to a STEM magnet school, so this kind of thing is very near and dear to my heart. It’s such an unbelievable educational tool. I knew I had to help with this restoration effort!”
The fundraiser is all centered on ticket sales to the RiverKings’ game against. the Huntsville Havoc on December 9, 2016 at 7:30 PM at the Landers Center. All tickets purchased from the dedicated group of Craigmont’s fundraising tickets will generate a donation of up to $10 per ticket to the planetarium restoration project.
The RiverKings are also offering incentives to community and Alumni businesses to purchase groups of fundraising tickets. Business purchasing 30 or more tickets will receive the opportunity to set up a promotional table on the Landers Center concourse during the game. Businesses that purchase more that 50 tickets will also receive in-game digital advertising.
“Business can use the tickets to reward employees or as a relationship building tool with their clients,” said David Schmoll, RiverKings’ General Manager. “Tickets can also be donated to Craigmont teachers and students to allow them to attend the game. We want to raise all $30,000 Craigmont needs through this event.”
