RiverKings Launch All Out Attack, Take Down Marksmen 12-1

SOUTHAVEN, Miss.- The RiverKings tie the SPHL record for most goals in a game with a 12-1 win over the Fayetteville Marksman in the regular season finale at Planters Bank Ice at the Landers Center.

Mississippi controlled the game from start to finish and it showed on the stat sheet and on the ice. Almost every RiverKings registered a point in the 12 goal onslaught, the team’s highest total for goals in a game since joining the SPHL. Daniel Tedesco led all RiverKings in scoring with five assists. Brantley Sherwood continued his hot-streak after being named SPHL Warrior Player of the Week at the second-most points from two goals and two assists. Additionally, five RiverKings accumulated three points, and defenseman Mark Whiteley scored his first professional goal while adding a second later in the contest.

Mississippi had their best period in the first, scoring five goals started off by Ryan Salkeld. The RiverKings then got four goals in under four minutes from Dillan Fox, Donald Olivieri, Sherwood, and Whiteley. The Marksmen struggled to find an offensive rhythm to start the game and were out-shot by the RiverKings 22-9 through the first 20 minutes of play.

Fox grabbed his second goal and third point of the night to give the RiverKings a 6-0 lead just over four minutes into the second period and Whitley continued his strong game with a well-placed wrist-shot to extend the lead to 8-0.

Later, in the third period, Bryan Arneson grabbed his lone goal of the night to open the scoring in the final period and bring the Mississippi lead to 10 goals and broke the RiverKings record for goals scored in an SPHL game. Once the RiverKings were in double-digits Fayetteville grabbed their only goal of the night when former RiverKing, Jamie Hill roofed a shot past Rutledge ending the goaltender’s shutout chance. Sherwood scored his second goal of the night to give the RiverKings the 11-1 lead, and shortly after, the man who started the game’s scoring way back in the first, Salkeld, netted his second of the evening and the RiverKings took down the Marksmen, 12-1.
