MACON, Ga. -- Matt Harrington scored a pair of goals as the Mississippi RiverKings (12-5-0) extended their winning streak to three with a 5-2 victory over the Macon Mayhem (13-2-2) on Saturday night.
The two teams traded goals in the first period. Matt Harrington found the back of the net just 6:26 into the first to put the RiverKings ahead 1-0. Then, with just under one minute to go in the first, Stathis Soumelidis tied the game at one going into the second.
In the second, the RiverKings tallied a pair of power play goals early. With the RiverKings on a five-on-three power play, Chris Leone ripped a shot past Jordan Ruby to give the RiverKings a 2-1 lead. Twenty seconds later, Ryan Marcuz deflected a shot from Sam Higgins past Ruby to give the visitors a two-goal advantage.
Late in the second. Macon responded. Daniel Sobotka's shot with under seven minutes left in the middle frame found the back of the net to bring the Mayhem within one going into the third.
The RiverKings regained their two-goal lead early in the final frame. Matt Harrington collected his second goal of the game just 31 seconds into the third to put the RiverKings ahead 4-2. Mike Moran capped the game with an empty-netter to give the RiverKings a 5-2 road victory.
Peter Di Salvo (6-1-0) stopped 31 of 33 shots against in the win. Jordan Ruby (6-1-1) took his first loss of the season after turning aside 22 of 26 shots against.
The RiverKings converted on two of three power play attempts, while holding Macon scoreless on two chances with the man advantage.
